The pilot phase of
TERRAMED - satellite promotional window of the Mediterranean-oriented programmes by
EPTV (Algeria),
France Télévisions (France),
Télévision Tunisienne (Tunisia),
Rai News 24/RAIMED (Italy),
RTVE (Spain), and
Eutelsat/Skylogic as technical partner -will start up in April: one hour of programming every day (11 a.m. - 12 a.m. GMT+2) on RaiMed satellite channel, shared by the 5 partner broadcasters and devoted to selected programmes on culture, art, history, traditions, economy, tourism, food, environment, to be promoted in the whole Euro-Mediterranean region.
This experimentation aims at consolidating the partnership settled around an innovative TV product that fulfils the aim of favouring multilateral and international projects as well as of promoting Euro-Mediterranean contents.
The official launch of TERRAMED by the partner broadcasterswill takeplace in the framework of COPEAM Conference of Cairo (16-19 April 2009).
A study group on the feasibility and the development of TERRAMED future permanent platform will be set up and the enlargement of the partnership to other COPEAM members is envisaged.
TERRAMED: experimentation and study
Rome, 6th July and 13th October 2009
On the 6th July 2009 a meeting gathering all the partners concerned was organised in Rome, in order to carry on the assessment - from both the editorial and technical points of view - on the first two months of experimentation and to initiate a joint feasibility study on the future development of TERRAMED. In addition to this, the French-German channel Arte and the public TV of Malta (PBS), members of COPEAM, expressed the wish to join the project.
On the 13th October 2009, again in Rome, the second meeting of this path took place.
An overall analysis of the programmes selected and promoted by the partners for Terramed has been presented (quantity, topics covered, genres, priority themes, etc.), as well as the first part of a preliminary study on Terramed development.
The intent of extending the experimentation to the first semester of 2010 and of launching a web platform has been expressed by all the partners.
TERRAMED officially presented in Cairo
On the 30th April 2009 the pilot phase of Terramed started to be broadcast. The channel offersa mosaic of images and sounds of the Euro-Mediterranean art, culture, history and society, food, archaeological patrimony, nature and traditions, made through the promotion of documentaries, shows, magazines, fictions, and other TV formats produced by the broadcaster partners of the project.
The project has been officially presented during the TV Commission meeting and the plenary Conference of COPEAM in Cairo and it met with a great interest of the international press attending the event, as it represents the first concrete step of the mid-term project of a Euro-Mediterranean multilateral and multicultural channel.
On the 6
th July 2009, in Rome, a meeting gathering all the partners concerned will be organised so to evaluate the first months of the experimentation and to start elaborating a development project for Terramed.
