COPEAM@ La Mostra de València

Valencia, 24 October 2023
From October 19 to 29, the 38th Mostra de València took place: the Mediterranean cinema festival member of COPEAM. For 10 days, the theatres of Babel, La Rambleta and Filmoteca screened films of all genres from various countries such as Palestine, Italy, Portugal or Lebanon.
In addition to maintaining the usual sections, the Festival has recovered the figure of Helena Cortesina as a pioneering director, the discovery of Edgar Pera as the last punk of European cinema, as well as the awarding of the Palm of Honor to Paolo Sorrentino.
We took part in the event with a selection of “A Première Vue” which was on screen with the winners of the 2023 edition of the APV Prize: Tayot 24 (ESAC-Tunisia), winner of the TV5MONDE Grand Prize, Rai Rayi (LabDZ - Institut French of Algeria) which won the MUCEM Youth Prize, Mom (ALBA – Líbanon) awarded with the Rai Cinema Prize, and the short film from ESAV- Marrakech Ayyur awarded last May as part of the CINEF at the Cannes Film Festival.
Survey “Resist-Exist: film festivals in times of pandemic”

While the year 2021 has started in the continuity of the uncertainty linked to the health crisis, the audiovisual and film sectors are facing an unprecedented situation, the restrictive measures taken to contain COVID-19 having a considerable impact on the domain of festivals.
COPEAM's Cinema-Festival-Culture Commission, chaired by Zina Berrahal (TV5MONDE), launched an online survey to take stock of the challenges, consequences and opportunities that the crisis represents for Mediterranean film festivals. A need to understand and promote the actions implemented by the region's cinema events to resist the pandemic and initiate a common reflection on the future.

The Euro-Arab documentary coproduction “Inter-Rives 10 – The Power of Art: Creativity for Change” officially started in July 2024

On 9 and 10 July 2024, a group of film directors from 13 TV members of COPEAM and ASBU (Arab States Broadcasting Union) met in Rome to kick off the new documentary coproduction “Inter-Rives” on the chosen topic “The power of art: creativity for change".
This edition, marking the 10th anniversary of this Euro-Arab cooperation project led by COPEAM and ASBU, will involve public broadcasters such as RAI/Italy, France Télévisions, RTVE/Spain, HRT/Croatia, BNT/ Bulgaria, ERT/Greece, Télévision Tunisienne, SNRT/Morocco, JRTV/Jordan, PBC/Palestine, Iraqi TV, Oman TV and Saudi TV.

Once completed, Inter Rives 10 will show stories of men and women who, through their creativity and art in different forms, produce a positive cultural and social change within their communities; an evocative “journey through images” that will bring different audiences all around the Mediterranean region and beyond, reaching the Arab peninsula and Iraq.
During the workshop organized in Rome and hosted by Rai-Radiotelevisione italiana, the directors and experts involved in the project discussed and chose the stories that will compose the documentary series, and shared a common editorial framework.
In February 2025, in Tunis, the film directors will gather again to present their films and analyse them together before finalization. Thanks to the so called “basket formula”, all the participating TVs will produce one short documentary (13’) and will obtain the rights to broadcast the whole series, planned from March 2025.
“Inter-Rives” TV coproduction at its 9th edition

The new series devoted to “People & Markets” was launched early 2022 by COPEAM and ASBU and the first workshop took place in Rome last May, organized by COPEAM and hosted by RAI, around the editorial framework and the selection of the subjects.
The 13 TV members of COPEAM and ASBU that joined the project – BNT-Bulgaria, EPTV-Algeria, ERT-Greece, France Télévisions, JRTV-Jordan, HRT-Croatia, Oman TV, PBC-Palestine, RTVE-Spain, RAI-Italy, SNRT-Morocco, TRT-Turkey, Télévision Tunisienne – will tell stories of women and men whose lives are strongly connected to suggestive markets (i.e. fish, flowers, antiques, etc.) in their countries and will compose a varied documentary collection rich in characters and cultural environments.
The coproduction process will end with the final workshop to be held by ASBU in Tunis in February 2023.
