Following the success of the past two editions, COPEAM and RaiNews24 are organising the third edition of the international all-news channels meeting that will be held in Venice (Italy), on the 31st March 2007, and focused on the topic: “All-news channels in the global information era: identity, cooperation, competition”.
A meeting that has been consolidating during the years, starting from Venice in 2005, were the Iraqi conflict issue, the difficulties to accessreliable information and the journalists’ security conditions in the war zones were discussed. In 2006, the Turin meeting was focused on the role of journalism of investigation and on the growing responsibility of the media vis-à-vis the international audience.
This edition will be focused onthe new challengesthe all-news channels have to face. Last year, new actors have enriched thepanorama of channels by satellite – for example, Al Jazeera English, Medi1Sat and France 24. Which are the consequences on the competition dynamics between information operators? How does the market rules affect the journalists’ work? Is the cooperation and networking possible within such a competitive environment? Will the market logics lead either to a more diversified TV offer or to a standard one? Does a strong channel identity attract the niche audiences or could it be attractive even for a global audience?
These are some of the questions that will be asked to the representatives of the main all-news channels, from BBC to Russia Today, from Al Arabyia to Nile News, from NTV Turkey to Sky.
