The 50th General Assembly of the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union, formed by the leading broadcasters in Asia-Pacific region, has been organized with the attendance of about 700 delegates between 23-29 October 2013 in Hanoi, the capital city of Vietnam. The elections to the ABU Administrative Board took place in the final day of the General Assembly.
The President of KBS Gil Hwan-young has been elected as the ABU President. As for vice-presidency elections, TRT Director General Mr. Ä°brahim Åžahin became the new Vice President of the ABU while the current Vice-Presidents NHK-Japan and RTM-Malaysia retained their positions. In the elections, during which the senior executives from the public service broadcasters of Turkey, India and Pakistan stood for the position, TRT Director General Mr. Sahin was elected as new Vice President by absolute majority in the first round voting. He is expected to serve for 3 years in this prestigious post.
