Bucharest, 3-4 October 2019
COPEAM was invited invited to the 5th Media 2020 Conference, an intercontinental media dialogue platform co-organized by Radio Romania and the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) and aimed to discover what unites and what divides Asia and Europe in the new digital era.
The event brought together experts and media leaders from the East and the West to examine how the digital world is evolving and how public service media are adapting to such environment.
This topic was at the core of the roundtable during which the Secretary General of COPEAM and other speakers from Rai, EBU and URTI concluded that cooperation and joint ventures between public broadcasters are nowadays probably the only way to keep relevant in a media landscape dominated by digital giants like Facebook or YouTube.
In the afternoon, a panel composed by representatives of INA (French Audiovisual National Institute), the Pakistani HUM TV, Rai-Radiotelevisione Italiana and the Irish Association for Cultural, Economic and Social Relations, with the moderation of Mr Cappon, was dedicated to the importance of digital technologies for promoting culture and diversity, and preserving the collective memory in both European and Asiatic regions.
At the end of the session, the awarding ceremony of the 2nd edition of “Making a Story from Archives” contest took place: an international competition launched by COPEAM in 2017 to encourage the creative use of the audiovisual archives and focused this year on Mediterranean women’s stories.
The Prize was delivered by COPEAM Secretary General to Ms Helena PIRC from RTVslo/Slovenia for her “Female Saltpan Workers” documentary.
