Rabat, 21 September 2019
On September 21st, COPEAM took part in the conference "Towards Gender Equality in the Audiovisual Industry in the Maghreb-Mashreq Region", organized by UNESCO Maghreb in Rabat (Morocco), during the 13th edition of the International Women Film Festival of Salé. This was the closing event of the project "Strengthening a Gender-Sensitive Film Sector in the Maghreb-Mashreq Region", co-funded - like the project SouthMed WiA – by the EU programme MedFilm. As members of the SouthMed WiA consortium – developed by Interarts (Spain, lead partner), ESAC (Tunisia), CUMEDIAE (Belgium), COPEAM (Italy), SIB (Lebanon), in association with EWA (France) - COPEAM and the European Women in Audiovisual Network (EWA) participated in Rabat’s conference to present the WiA (Women in Audiovisual) network as an example of experiences' sharing and mutual support between women audiovisual professionals in the MENA region. The main objective was to explore possible synergies with the main results of the UNESCO project, notably the Arab Women in Films catalogue, as well as any initiative aimed at capitalizing and perpetuating these achievements also through new funding by the European Union.
The possibility of organizing a round table of the WiA network in Hammamet next October, in the framework of the Biouyounihin women's film festival was also discussed.
