Alicante, 27 - 28 September 2018
Ten representatives of the second call’s sub-granted projects and the partners of SouthMed WiA met in Alicante on 27 and 28 September 2018. Together, they participated in a two-day interactive training on project monitoring and evaluation – given by the evaluator & international development consultant Ibtissem Jouini from Tunisia – and on access to film festivals, distribution and dissemination of audio-visual products with a gender perspective – by the Lebanese film director and producer Dima Al Joundi.
The training sessions responded to the needs expressed by the sub-granted organisations, which acquired knowledge and new tools to foster their current and future activities and to better implement their projects in their respective countries (Lebanon, Palestine, Egypt, Tunisia and Jordan).
The event, hosted by Casa Mediterráneo, closed with a public conference entitled “Challenging gender inequality in the audiovisual sector in the Mediterranean”. In this framework, a panel of experts – composed of Fayrouz Karawya, artist, singer and PhD anthropologist from Cairo; Pilar Pérez Solano, Producer and film-maker from Alicante, also member of the Spanish Women Filmmakers Association CIMA; Dima Al Joundi – shared their experiences with the attending audience and debated on the challenges faced by women working in the audiovisual sector in Egypt, Spain and Lebanon.
The event has represented a chance for all participants to reflect on the importance and necessity of joint actions involving cultural experts and operators, activists and civil society organizations to face the persisting gender inequalities in the Mediterranean audiovisual sector.
