Venice, 6 September 2024
As part of the 2024 edition of the Venice International Film Festival, the 26th Euro-Mediterranean Conference on Cinema took place on September 6 around the topic “Mobile cinema: a new koiné for young Euromediterraneans to foster peace and tolerance”.
Organized by the International Film and Television Council (ICFT), the event envisioned to relaunch the legacy of the UNESCO Mediterranean Programme – launched in 1998 and aimed at fostering peace and tolerance, co-development, intercultural dialogue and cooperation in the region - by identifying new pathways that, enhanced by AI applications, can validate new political, economic and socio-cultural expressions and scenarios.
The Deputy Secretary-General of COPEAM, Paola Parri, attending remotely the panel discussion on “The fate of the Mediterranean: the role of Institutions in the Next Generation Mediterranean community”, particularly urged the need “to support new talents, make easier professional mobility and promote media and digital literacy among youngsters to fight against hate speech, disinformation and misinformation, if we really want to create an aware and active Mediterranean next generation”.
A final declaration was issued and endorsed by the Conference speakers to revitalize the Mediterranean cultural cooperation on the eve of the 30th anniversary of the Barcelona Process.
