Between May and July, COPEAM made its little tour of the Mediterranean.
Invited to the 29th edition of the Mediterranean Film Festival of Tetouan - associated member of our network - which took place from April 27 to May 4, 2024, the Secretary General Claudio Cappon took part in the programme of Tetouan Industry Day - an event which promotes collaboration between professionals in the film industry of both Mediterranean sides - presenting the multilateral cooperation formula of our Association through its projects in the fields of co-production, training and promotion of young talents from the south of the Region.
With screenings enriched with debates, meetings, round tables and workshops, the Festival was a pleasant opportunity for knowledge and exchange with professionals of the 7th art from Morocco and from various other Mediterranean countries.
This year too, Tunis was the scene of the 24th Arab Radio and Television Festival, as well as of the Technology, Equipment and Software Market Fair.
The event, organized by ASBU in partnership with the Ministry of Cultural Affairs of Tunisia and in cooperation with Tunisian television and radio and Arabsat, took place from 26 to 29 June around the theme: “Free Palestine”.
In addition to the awards ceremony at the Chedli Klibi City of Culture, which inaugurated this annual event with the participation of many celebrities from the Arab world, the Festival program included several important seminars such as “War Media or War on Media: The Case of Palestine,” “China-Arab States Broadcasting and Television Cooperation Forum,” “Engaging the Audience Using Artificial Intelligence,” and “Digital Stardom and Influencing Public Opinion”.
An opportunity always appreciated by COPEAM, thanks to which interesting meetings occur with large production and technology companies from the media sector, broadcasting organizations from different countries and several international organizations.
Public service media are called to play an increasingly important role in defending the democratic system in a period characterized by strong polarization both in politics and society. This was the message launched from Limassol, the city in Cyprus which hosted, on 4-5 July, the 2024 Summer General Assembly of the EBU, opened by the President of the Cypriot Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, and also attended by COPEAM.
Focused on the potential impact of artificial intelligence in the field of information and on the journalist profession and communication operators, the debate on this session’s topic was enriched by high-level experts and speakers who, in addition to the transformative role of AI, also delved into other pressing issues shaping the media industry, such as the evolving television landscape and the significant impact of current geopolitical developments on public broadcasters.
The General Director of EBU, Noel Curran, confirmed in Limassol for a further 2-year mandate, underscored the need to be updated on technological transformation processes but, at the same time, to safeguard the values of information starting from the search for truth, which can be dangerously threatened by a misuse of Artificial Intelligence.
