
Radio Romania, has the pleasure to inform you that on November 26, the Romanian Parliament validated the appointment of Mr. Robert Schwartz as President Director General of Radio Romania.
“I propose as long-term policies the development of media productions, the drafting of programs for a younger audience, and the consolidation of human and editorial resources. Our goal should be the following – to be relevant for all generations. In this context, one of the directions is digital transformation. Without a complete digitization, the public radio cannot remain competitive,” Robert Schwartz stated during the hearings in the Romanian Parliament. The new President Director General’s mandate will be under the sign of “innovation, transparency and trust”, he added.
Robert Schwartz is a distinguished Romanian-German journalist and media professional with over 30 years of experience, primarily at Deutsche Welle, where he headed the Romanian-language editorial team from 2000 to 2020. Born in 1956 in Sibiu, Romania, he graduated with top marks in German Studies from the University of Bucharest. Robert Schwartz’s career includes roles as a teacher, and in 1990, he became the first elected director of the German High School in Bucharest following the Romanian Revolution. He joined Deutsche Welle in 1992 and led significant projects, including the “Sinti and Roma in Europe” initiative (2020-2023). In recognition of his contributions to Romanian-German cultural relations, he was awarded the Order of Cultural Merit (Commander Rank) in 2012. Robert Schwartz is a member of several prominent academic and cultural organizations, contributing to international media and cultural exchanges and in 2023 was elected president of the German-Romanian Society in Berlin.
